So this was a major crazy day.

We had gotten up on Labor day with all intentions of just sitting around doing nothing.
I picked up the newspaper and saw a picture from a park near here that had an actual Merry-go-round.
So, after taking a vote and realizing that at least two of the kids have never seen one (they were taken out of our local parks long ago)and
then using map quest to see the park was only 17 miles from us, packing up a lunch, rounding up assorted friends, getting the cameras ready...
We were on our way!
This park is a regular "city" looking park, with one exception, it opens up into the desert, on the east side.
Real desert, not the kind made by those who desert scape, and the backdrop for this all is the Superstition Mountains.

The cast of characters on this jouney included our kids, Kendra, Pat,
and Bekah,
and friends, Lisa ( you may recognize her from other pages....), Misty,
and Jacob , a newcomber to our strange daytrips..
he is the one laying in the sand by the merry-go-round...

and then what do we see in the distance? could it be?
A monsoon storm brewing.....

We watched from the desert, as the storm formed.
And then it swiftly moved toward us....
and then we ran like heck...
but it didn't matter, we still got soaked
and of course the windows were down in the van..
all in all, it was a great day...
caught in a storm in the desert
and then the rainbows, and colors of the sky afterwards...
and our city dwellers, with the cactus..
one picture we deemed Rebels, the other "The Outsiders"
Left to right, Jacob, Bekah, and Lisa...
Here is a link to a Google Map, showing where the park is. Ignore all the little arrows, and you can see the "Prospector Park"
at the northeast corner of Idaho Rd and E. Lost Dutchman Blvd. (Lost Dutchman is the same as Brown Rd in Mesa) Idaho can be
reached by way of the Superstition Freeway (East 60). Google Map
